STRP Chair Roy Gardner will speak at the Annual Conference of the National Association of Environmental Professionals about 'The Ramsar Convention: A Global Perspective on Wetland Conservation'. The conference will be held in St. Petersburg Florida from 7 to10 April 2014.

STRP Chair Roy Gardner will be at the "Biodiversity Offsets in Canada: making it right" conference in Ottawa, Canada, on 13-14 February 2014. The aim of the conference is to examine the drivers, opportunities and pitfalls of using offsets for biodiversity protection; learn from the experience with their use in Canada and elsewhere; and examine how biodiversity offsets can be effectively used in the Canadian context, with a focus on emerging regulatory opportunities. Max Finlayson will be co-organizing a workshop on ecological character by Marcela Bonells Site Administrator 01 Aug 2014

STRP Invited Expert Max Finlayson will be co-organizing a Ramsar workshop on detecting, reporting and responding to change in wetland ecological character in Queenscliff, Australia, from 5-8 November 2013. The workshop will be held under the auspices of the PAGES (Past Global Changes) network of the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP), established in 1986 by the International Council of Scientific Unions (ICSU). Outputs from the workshop will contribute to the STRP’s 2013-2015 high priority work on providing further ecological character advice.

STRP members and STRP observers will participate at a GWOS workshop by Marcela Bonells Site Administrator 01 Aug 2014

Stephan Flink and Dave Pritchard, STRP members, along with Lammert Hilarides and Ian Harrison will be attending a Global Wetlands Oberving System (GWOS) Workshop at Ede, Netherlands, from 4-5 November 2013. The aim of the workshop is to draft the roadmap to take GWOS from a concept to reality.

The STRP Chair will be visiting Muscat, Oman by Marcela Bonells Site Administrator 01 Aug 2014

Royal Gardner, STRP Chair, will be in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman, from 27-31 October 2013, to provide technical support to assist with implementation of the Convention. Specifically, the Chair, will provide advice on the drafting of a National Wetland Policy, the establishment of a National Ramsar Committee, the creation of a national wetland inventory and a review of environmental legislation to ensure it incorporates principles of wise use and conservation of wetlands.

The STRP Chair will lead workshop in Changwon City by Marcela Bonells Site Administrator 01 Aug 2014

Royal Gardner, STRP Chair, will lead the 'Asia Regional Workshop on Scientific and Technical Support for implementation of the Ramsar Convention' in Changwon City, Republic of Korea, from 7-11 October 2013. The workshop, aimed at STRP National Focal Points and National Focal Points, seeks to foster greater involvement with, and contributions to, the work of the STRP during the 2013-15 triennium. STRP members, including Christine Prietto, Hiromi Yamashita, Lars Dinesen, Max Finlayson and Ritesh Kumar, will be leading working sessions on some of the STRP's highest priority tasks such as capacity building (CEPA), invasive species and wetlands, water and wetlands, the Ramsar Information Sheet-2012 revision, wetlands and climate change, economics of wetland ecosystems and wetlands and poverty eradication.

Stanley Liphadzi, STRP member, will be attending this workshop on behalf of the STRP Chair from 25-26 August in Cape Town South Africa. The workshop seeks to prepare documents and views that will be presented to the upcoming IPBES-2 plenary in Turkey in December 2013.

Ian Harrison will be presenting at the American Geophysical Union meetings by Marcela Bonells Site Administrator 01 Aug 2014

Ian Harrison, STRP Observer Organisation representative for IUCN and Conservation International, will be presenting on "The role of remote sensing data in conservation and sustainable management of the ecological functions and ecosystem services of deltas" at a session on Remote Sensing Applications Estuary and Delta Science and Management at the American Geophysical Fall Meeting, 9 -13 December, San Francisco, California, USA. There will be a discussion of the project on "Catalyzing action towards sustainability of deltaic systems with an integrated modelling framework for risk assessment (DELTAS)" (Funded by the Belmont Forum).
